All about Shiba Inu PuppiesAbout Shiba Inus

The Shiba Inus is one of the oldest known dog breeds originating back to 300 BC in Japan. These dogs were used to hunt small game and flush them out similar to how hounds are used in modern times. The breed was nearly wiped out during WWII due to a combination of bombing raids and disease.

Shortly after the war, the first Shiba Inu was brought to the U.S. In 1954 and the first Shiba Inu puppy was born in the United States in 1979. The breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1992.

Like many of the ancient breeds, Shiba Inu puppies and dogs are very independent, and as a result can be more difficult to breed than other dogs.

Shiba Inu Puppies are typically referred to as a “proud” breed of dog because of the many behaviors they exhibit that demonstrates this quality in humans. For example - they keep a very clean coat and can be seen constantly cleaning themselves. Also, Shiba Inu Puppies are easily housebroken and have sometimes been able to housebreak themselves.

What you should know before buying your Shiba Inu Puppy from a breeder.Buying Puppies from Shiba Inu Breeders

Unlike many of the modern designer dogs, crossbreeds, and mixes, Shiba Inu dogs are recognized by the AKC as a purebred breed. This gives you a distinct advantage in assuring that the animal is a purebred because the breeder themselves can register the puppy as such.

Even when you assure that the puppy is registered, it’s still nice to check with the breeder to find out about the puppy’s living conditions, vet checkups, and mannerisms. You’ll also want to check several references from people who have already adopted puppies from them.
